Last evening, the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction recognized UHN’s Toronto Western Hospital Stack project, a vital part of the hospital’s Powerhouse Redevelopment. Congratulations to our client, UHN - the University Health Network, Milman & Associates, the structural engineering team, PCL Construction and Ellesmere Fabricators. HH Angus served as prime consultant and M&E engineers. The generator exhaust stack won in the category of Steel Works – Sculptures – Outdoor Pavillions.

The theme of this year’s Forum is ‘Accelerating Innovative Approaches to Project Design & Delivery’. Megan will be co-presenting with Jeannie Gandham, Program Director, IT at New St. Paul’s Hospital. Their session will cover:
- How to develop a digital roadmap with standardized processes that achieves purpose-built space
- Gain insights on the development of CSA standards and guidance on where to start, when evaluating and integrating technology
- How to foster collaboration between clinical and industry specialists to transform patient care based on current, and anticipated health needs

We’re delighted to introduce Andy Crosson, the newest member of our Angus Connect division. Andy joins us as Associate Director and, while based in our Vancouver office, he will be working with clients and on projects throughout Western Canada and across the country. Angus Connect is HH Angus’ multidisciplinary team providing a full suite of technology consulting and engineering services, from strategic technology planning and roadmap development to the design and implementation of digital healthcare facilities, smart campuses and smart office buildings.
Andy has a background of 25+ years in design and project management for clients in North America, the UK and the Middle East, and brings a wealth of experience in design, management and delivery of complex projects. A licensed electrical engineer, he specializes in smart buildings, telecommunications, audio visual, network and security design for clients across the commercial, healthcare, institutional, education, mission critical and aviation sectors. Just a few of Andy’s portfolio highlights include:
- ‘The Stack’ for Oxford Properties in Vancouver - a 37-storey, 500,000 ft2 LEED Platinum commercial tower
- Centennial Yards in Atlanta Georgia - featuring connectivity master planning for an 8 million ft2 mixed use development
- Lululemon Store Support Centre in Vancouver – ICAT and smart building systems design for a new build, 600,000 ft2 LEED Platinum, WELL Platinum and Zero Carbon office building

Congratulations to Fernando Neto, newly elected as Global Regional Director for BICSI’s (Building Industry Consulting Service International, Inc.) Board of Directors, and a Senior Manager in HH Angus’ Connect Division. When he assumes the role in February 2023, Fernando will bring demonstrated expertise in ICT to this international professional organization that supports advances in information and communications technology, and certifies professionals such as RCDDs - Registered Communications Distribution Designers.
A member of BICSI since 2000 and an RCDD himself, Fernando will continue as Canadian Regional Director, and Board Liaison to BICSI’s Ethics Committee until he begins his new role. In addition to his formal roles, he has previously hosted ICT forums and presented at several BICSI Canadian conferences.
Leading up to his new role with BICSI, Fernando has focused on the effective procurement, integration, and delivery of technology for projects across the globe, including complex facilities such as hospitals, airports, sports venues, education, and rail facilities. His goals for his new role on the Board will be to “continue to work with BICSI and the Board of Directors to address BICSI’s global members’ concerns around course/training locations and costs, as well as membership value, to creating a strong ROI for current and future BICSI members. I also want to help elevate the recognition of the BICSI credentials and to promote our industry through educational outreach.”
Bringing over 24+ years of experience at the intersection of technology and the built environment, Fernando’s current role is as a Senior Manager in the Angus Connect division of HH Angus. He leads a team of highly skilled professionals in the design, project management, and delivery of communications systems (SCS, public address, intercom, nurse call, audio video, network and Wi-Fi infrastructure) and security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and RTLS) projects, with a focus on the healthcare, laboratory, and commercial sectors. Fernando also leads a volunteer training program for cascading technical knowledge in the communications and security fields to the firm’s new grads and coop students.

This is an important evolution in the leadership team, as it provides opportunities for employees to grow professionally, assume new responsibilities, and contribute to our shared endeavour.

Here is a summary of the recent organizational changes:
Tom Halpenny takes on the newly created role of Executive Vice President, expanding his existing focus on Risk Management, as well as taking a lead role in optimizing our P3 pursuits.
Nick Stark also assumes the new role of Executive Vice President, leading the firm’s expansion in Vancouver and throughout Western Canada, as well as focusing on growing our Sustainable Engineering services.
Kevin O’Neill takes over the role of Vice President of Operations, with responsibility for day-to-day management of business operations, including the Project Management Office. Kevin’s focus is on improving the efficiency of current operations, supporting resource allocation, aligning skills development to project and client needs, and engaging with our clients across the firm. Kevin continues to manage our Commercial Division.
Megan Angus assumes the new role of Vice President of Strategy and Digital Services, responsible for effective implementation and management of our strategic planning and initiatives to ensure the firm achieves its growth objectives. In addition, Megan leads the ongoing development of our Digital Services initiative – a growing service area, as well as management of our Angus Connect Division.
Rod Mons takes on the new role of Vice President of Technology and Technical Services, leading our ongoing development of Technology, Data Governance and Knowledge, Learning & Skill Development. Rod also continues to help drive our geographic expansion initiatives and the growth of our mission critical sector.
Craig Sievenpiper takes over the role of Division Director, Technology. He continues to build on 20+ years of leadership with HH Angus and to drive the continued growth in this division.
Phil Schuyler takes on the role of Director, Energy Division, building on his success as a trusted advisor to clients, technical leader, and excellent team manager.
Nira Kugan assumes the role of Director of Finance and Accounting, leading the team to manage the important financial work that helps us achieve our strategic goals.
Adrienne Cressman rejoins HH Angus in the new role of Director, Project Management Office. She is working with the Operations team to enhance the firm’s project management skills. Returning to us from 8+ years on the client side, Adrienne provides insight into developing and implementing best practices to suit individual client needs.
