Chris Doel
P.Eng., CEng., MCIBSE
Director, Advisory Services
“The built environment has always excited me. Great buildings can positively shape how we live, work, and connect. The right strategic advice, applied early and carried through design and delivery, can unlock the full potential of what's possible. Working closely with clients and project teams, we can deliver buildings that perform, create lasting value, and make a real difference to the people who use them.”
Chris leads our Advisory Services practice, working closely with teams across the firm to provide clients with strategic, data-driven guidance from early planning and feasibility through design, construction, and ongoing operations.
Advisory Services packages together many of HH Angus’ engineering and consulting services in planning, simulation modeling (e.g., CFD analysis and energy modeling), building energy audits and optimization, energy and decarbonization consulting, technology and smart building roadmaps, and building performance measurement and verification.
Chris brings more than 20 years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and design industry, with a strong track record in leadership, team development, and project delivery. His career has been shaped by a focus on high-performance buildings, sustainability, and low-carbon solutions, supported by experience in both consulting and design roles; for example, in energy master planning and mechanical system design for high-performance buildings.
Some of Chris’ project highlights include the B.C. Institute of Technology Student Housing project, a 12-storey mass timber building with CaGBC Zero Carbon Building-Design Standard certification, and the University of Victoria’s two Passive House-certified, LEED v4 Gold buildings with a precedent-setting fully electrified commercial kitchen — the largest Passive House kitchen in North America, and designed to meet 2050 climate thermal comfort standards.
Away from work, Chris can be found mountain biking, hiking, or skiing on Vancouver’s North Shore trails or up in Whistler. He also enjoys learning new DIY skills for home projects and playing guitar.
