WHY OPERATIONAL READINESS MATTERS

Connecting people, processes, technology and the built environment to support safe, effective healthcare operations from day one.

A hospital is more than a building. It is an interconnected operating platform where engineering, digital, transportation, security, logistics and automation systems collectively shape care delivery, safety, resilience and efficiency.

Operational readiness helps organizations respond to the growing integration of buildings, digital systems, operational workflows, and stakeholder expectations in redevelopment projects.

WHAT IS
OPERATIONAL
READINESS?

Operational Readiness connects the hospital’s vision and operating intent with decisions made throughout the capital project. It brings together people, workflows, technology, infrastructure and activation planning to prepare the organization for successful Day One operations and long-term performance.

BENEFITS OF OPERATIONAL READINESS

Maximize the Opportunity:

  • Develop sustainable operational improvements
  • Optimize benefits of the new facility

Reduce Operational
Risk and Rework:

  • Reduce start-up and ramp-up risk
  • Decrease post-transition operational re-dos
  • Mitigate workforce disruption

Manage Change:

  • Set SMART goals
  • Increase change awareness
  • Enable resource efficiency
  • Support smooth change adoption

HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS ARE ALREADY UNDER PRESSURE

Organizations are expected to transform operations at the pace of construction while continuing to deliver high-quality care with fewer resources.

FROM EARLY PLANNING TO OPENING DAY — AND BEYOND

We guide clients through every stage of the project lifecycle with a structured, end-to-end approach ensuring readiness is built progressively, risks are managed early, and teams are fully prepared for Day One.

A structured journey that ensures nothing is missed — from first plan to full operational performance.

RESULTS THAT MATTER

Operational Outcomes

  • Clinical, operational, digital, and support services are aligned as an integrated system on Day One.
  • Teams are prepared.
  • Workflows function as intended.
  • Risks are mitigated before activation.
  • A safe, controlled opening with continuity of critical services and minimal disruption.
  • Evidence-based go/no-go decisions and effective contingency plans.

Executive Value

  • Reduced organization, operational, and reputational risk.
  • Faster realization of planned clinical and operational benefits.
  • Increased return on capital and technology investments.
  • Improved workforce adoption and change sustainability.
  • Stronger executive decision-making.
  • Greater confidence in opening-day and stabilization decisions.

PROVEN EXPERIENCE ACROSS COMPLEX HEALTHCARE PROJECTS

Michael Garron Hospital
Patient Care Centre Redevelopment (Toronto, ON)

Digital Transformation | System Integration | Redevelopment

Angus Connect supported Michael Garron Hospital through a major redevelopment, including a new 8-storey, 550,000 ft2 patient care tower and 100,000 ft2 of renovations.

Our team developed a long-term IT and digital strategy to guide the transition from legacy systems to a fully integrated, paperless environment. We led ICAT planning and defined interoperability requirements across clinical and operational systems, aligning technology with care delivery.

In parallel, our operational readiness team supported project setup, governance, readiness frameworks and redevelopment integration across the program. Our team helped establish the operational readiness framework and supporting workstreams, coordinated redevelopment and integration planning, and provided operational leadership to align project delivery with clinical and operational priorities.

By embedding digital infrastructure and workflows into the design phase — rather than layering them on after construction — we helped create a seamless, future-ready care environment.

Impact:

  • Enabled a seamless transition from legacy systems to a modern digital environment
  • Positioned the hospital toward EMRAM Level 7 (fully digital care delivery)
  • Improved interoperability to support efficient, coordinated patient care
  • Embedded operational workflows into system and facility design

FROM LEGACY SYSTEMS TO A FULLY DIGITAL HOSPITAL

DELIVERING CONFIDENCE FOR DAY ONE

Dawson Creek & District Hospital
Replacement Hospital Project (Dawson Creek, BC)

Care Transformation | Activation | Rural Healthcare

For the Dawson Creek & District Hospital replacement project — a 263,000 ft2, 70-bed facility serving rural and Indigenous communities — Angus Connect led a comprehensive operational readiness program from early planning through transition and go-live.

Acting as Operational Readiness Consultant, our team delivered a structured, phased approach spanning assessment, detailed workplan development, and full transition planning. Recognizing the operational pressures associated with opening a new healthcare facility in a resource-constrained environment, we provided expert advisory and operational readiness support across key services to help align clinical and non-clinical teams throughout the transition.

Our work included gap analysis, change mapping, patient journey and materials flow mapping, training and orientation planning, and Opening Day simulations — enabling a coordinated and confident transition into the new facility.

Impact:

  • Established a comprehensive operational readiness framework and toolkit
  • Enabled strong stakeholder alignment across clinical and operational teams
  • Created a clear, actionable path to a safe and successful facility opening

UHN – Toronto Western Hospital
New Surgical & Patient Tower (Toronto, ON)

Digital Strategy | Advanced Clinical Technology | Smart Hospital

For UHN’s new state-of-the-art surgical and patient tower — a ~$1B, 15-storey, 380,000 ft2 facility featuring 82 beds and 20 operating rooms, including hybrid ORs — Angus Connect played a key role in shaping the digital strategy and planning advanced clinical technologies.

The project introduces cutting-edge systems including RTLS, advanced audiovisual platforms, and hybrid surgical technologies that transform how care is delivered, coordinated, and taught. Our team led ICAT/IMIT design and integration, ensuring alignment with clinical workflows and operational requirements.

By embedding digital solutions into planning and design, we enabled seamless system integration, supporting high-performance surgical environments and enhanced patient experiences — ensuring innovation translated into practical, day-to-day improvements in care delivery.

Impact:

  • Enhanced clinical communication and workflow efficiency
  • Enabled advanced surgical capabilities and modern teaching environments
  • Delivered a fully integrated, patient-centered digital experience
